To enjoy the atmosphere of the real Turin from the morning, you cannot miss a typical breakfast in one of the cafes of the city center. There is always a good excuse to enjoy a pleasant moment to start the day.
You can’t resist a cream puffs, a bicerin or fantastic cappuccino with croissants. Here are my favorites.
PASTRY VENIER
Via Monte Di Pietà, 22
The bakery is famous for its soft nougat, sacher cakes, cream cakes and especially for its fresh, soft and delicious pastries. The peculiarity are the ingredients sourced from local dairies. Try, perhaps accompanied by a cappuccino, the torciglione with cream. The restaurant offers some tables and great coffee.
LOCANDA LEGGERA salted and vegan breakfast
Via Giovanni Francesco Napione, 32 – www.locandaleggera.it
You can find a breakfast for all tastes and for all needs (vegan, gluten, milk intolerant, etc …). The concept is the same of the shop Leggero: healthy, genuine ingredients, sourced locally and fresh. The proposals are many, ranging from the traditional Italian breakfast with coffee, cappuccino (also available with soya milk and other types) and treats (vegan cakes, tarts, pastries, croissants, muffins and biscuits without wheat) the Anglo-Saxon breakfast with eggs and bacon, sweet and savory pancakes. A healthy breakfast, luscious and eco-friendly! The environment is really quiet, although soon fills up. On every table there is a bottle of filtered water at guests disposal and free of charge. The menu is very handy to browse because it is divided into two parts, so you can combine as you prefer drinks to food and the choice is really wide, in fact, besides the traditional morning cappuccino with brioche you can feel at home eating bread and jam, milk and cereal or fresh fruit, for those who prefer salty the choice is rich as well: eggs, sandwiches and toasts.
TEAPOT TISANERIA (even for children)
Via Silvio Pellico, 18 – Zona San Salvario – http://www.teapotisaneria.it/
Mon close – tue – fri 8 – 19 –sat – sun 9 – 19
Here you can have a breakfast out of the ordinary in a different place from the classic cafes of Turin. First have a look at the website and then you can come and enjoy an American coffee or one of the tea, making you advice by the maid or an orange carrot and apple juice. You can choose the toast (it is also available in special flours) with mountain butter and marmalade cream. Finally yogurt with cereal and fresh fruit. By Teapot there is also attention for those with food allergies and it is not unusual to find gluten-free foods or vegan cakes whose taste has nothing to envy to others. You will also find many people sitting in the ages or on the pc because the wifi is free and you can stop at the tables all the time that you want. For children there are games and album and a changing table to change the little ones. You can recognize the place thanks to the outdoor area enclosed by bicycles and planters.
SAN TOMMASO 10 LAVAZZA
Via San Tommaso 10 – http://www.lavazza.it/it/mondo_lavazza/san-tommaso10/
This is an historical place from 1895, it was an old grocery store, where Lavaazza created the first Lavazza blends and they made the first experiments. In 1995 for its 100 years the café has reopened to the public becoming a popular coffee shop. Today it offers some great coffee and pastry. My advice though is to try the “Espesso” a coffee made as a froth that you eat and drink with a slotted spoon. A unique and sweet coffee, which is part of molecular cuisine.
FARMACIA DEL CAMBIO
Piazza Carignano, 2 mon – sun 9 – 19.30 http://www.delcambio.it/farmacia/
Farmacia del cambio (translated change pharmacy) occupies the premises of the historic pharmacy Bestente founded in 1833, hence the name of the pharmacy. But this is in effect a cafeteria with lab. It’s a place to be seen, to enjoy a good espresso and watch the young pastry chefs create exquisite delights through the glass. The baked goods are creations of the chef Fabrizio Galla, but you can also enjoy fresh juices and smoothies.
